Cultural Scene – Art, Music, Theater and More!
Ojai is an artsy enclave of writers, photographers, artists, composers, and spiritual seekers. The city embodies the essence of a thriving arts community with world-renowned artists, downtown galleries, an inspiring public arts program, a dynamic art center, and a calendar packed full of cultural events.
The best place to start your cultural journey is right downtown – also known as "the village.” Everything to inspire the artist in you is centrally located – the Ojai Art Center, Theater 150, the Ojai Valley Museum, and an impressive array of galleries. Your "tour de culture” should include stops at the Human Arts Gallery and Primavera Gallery to admire hand-blown glass, woodwork, folk art furniture, one of a kind jewelry, paintings, sculptures, and art.
Libbey Park, the town's gathering place, is home to the Ojai Storytelling Festival and Art in the Park (May), and the Ojai Valley Lavender Festival and acclaimed Ojai Music Festival (June). The Music Festival has presented the world's great conductors, composers, and performers – from Igor Stravinsky and Aaron Copland to Pierre Boulez and is Ojai's most anticipated annual cultural event.
Ojai's other top cultural events include the Ojai Wine Festival at Lake Casitas (June) showcasing local and regional wines and cuisine, the Ojai Playwrights Conference (August) where new works for the theater are presented for the first time, and the Ojai Studio Artists Tour (October) when local painters, sculptors, potters and other creative types open their studios to visitors!
